A Collaborative Learning Experience
On the 2nd of October, our school embarked on a unique and exciting day trip to Burg Alsbach. This outing was part of a pilot project designed to foster camaraderie and learning between our Year 5 and Year 9 pupils.
The day began with a lively gathering at ‘Am Hinkelstein’ in Alsbach, where pupils from both year groups met with anticipation. Together, we embarked on a hike to Burg Alsbach, a historic castle that provided the perfect backdrop for our adventure.
Once at the castle, a variety of engaging activities were planned to encourage interaction and teamwork. The Year 9 pupils, acting as mentors, guided and supported their younger buddies, fostering a sense of responsibility and leadership. This buddy system not only helped the Year 5 pupils feel more comfortable in a new environment but also provided valuable opportunities for the Year 9 pupils to develop their social and emotional skills.
At lunchtime, everyone enjoyed their packed lunches, refueled for the return journey. The day concluded with a pleasant walk back to ‘Am Hinkelstein’.
This day trip was a resounding success. It not only provided a valuable opportunity for our students to bond but also reinforced the importance of collaboration, responsibility, and mutual respect. We are grateful to our teachers for organizing this memorable experience.
