This year's Careers Day event was packed with interactive activities for our SISS Year 8 students. Each student participated in four one-hour workshops from a variety of career fields, including carpentry, the construction industry, energy trading, international development, intellectual property, IT in cancer research, life coaching, physical therapy, and psychology.
In the carpentry workshop, students had the opportunity to plane wood and learn safety tips for working with sharp tools. In the construction workshop, groups competed to build the most stable house using marshmallows and skewers. The energy trading workshop required quick math skills, and the international development workshop taught students the value of helping others in need. The intellectual property workshop was a hit when students applied their new knowledge about branding and trademarks to Pringles and KitKat. The students were surprised to learn how valuable IT is in cancer treatment research. In life coaching, they practiced empathy and problem-solving. In physical therapy, they tried stretching and relaxation techniques, and in psychology, they enjoyed comparing brain scans and learning about forensics.
For the first time three SISS graduates were among the team of workshop leaders this year. Thank you to our workshop leaders who dedicated time out of their busy schedules to enable such enriching experiences for our students!
